Clare</B></div> <bR> <div> <B>Chess Wins the Hearts of the West</B></div> <div> <B>Last Saturday, 9th April, 50 children from West Clare rose to the challenge of a chess tournament in Knockerra Hall.  Most of the children represented West Clare - many from Killimer, Knockerra, Kilrush, Kilkee, Kilmurry McMahon while others traveled from Adare, Killarney, Limerick and Shannon. The children played 5 rounds of chess in 'Swiss Tournament' style.</B></div> <div> <B>The overall winner was from Shannon - James Danaher, age 8. The tournament was run in different sections and Nathan Frawley came joint first with James Danaher in the Advanced section.  Second place was shared with Olivia Fitzmaurice from Shannon and Ruairi Norrby from Killimer. Joint third place was shared by Aoife Keane and Ethan Tooher, both from Killimer. Joint fourth place was shared with Karl Fitzmaurice, Shannon, Daniel Walsh, Killimer, Lucinda Holland Limerick, Mark Glynn, Kilrush and Mark Finucane from Kilmurry McMahon.</B></div> <div> <B>In the Junior  Section, first place was secured by Thomas Quigley from Adare, second place by Michael Meehan, Knockerra and in third place came Daniel Delaney from Limerick.  Best girl trophy was awarded to Rachel O'Sullivan age 7 from Kildysart.</B></div> <div> <B>Chess is new to West Clare and while the Club in Killimer Knockerra is in its infancy over 57 enthusiastic chess players meet each week to learn to play and enjoy the challenge of the game.
