Given the big effort that has been made to encourage community groups, businesses, local clubs and organisations to participate in this year's St. Patrick's Day Parade (Wednesday 17th March, 2004), by the new organising committee, hopes are high that if the weather is favourable this year's Parade will be biggest-ever seen in the town.
With the Parade now being organised by a sub-committee of the Kilrush Chamber of Commerce, made up of Paul Edson, Rebecca Brew, Vincent O'Halloran, this year's Grand Marshall will be the newly-elected Chamber President Denis Nolan.
The Parade will begin at 3pm sharp from the Community Centre and follow the traditional route around the town led by the FCA D Company. This year as a prelude to the Parade there will be live traditional music from the Viewing Platform in the Square from 2pm. Participants are to assemble at the Community Centre at 2.30 pm and the parade will commence at 3.00 pm sharp towards Frances Street, The Square, Moore Street, The Glen, Vandeleur Street, Henry Street and return to The Square.
Trophies will awarded to the best three floats in the Parade in each of five categories - Commerce, Community, Children's, Culture/Heritage and Entertainment. The winner of each category will also receive a cash prize. An overall winner will then be chosen from one of the five category winners and they will receive the Perpetual Trophy and a Winners Cup. Every child that takes part in the Parade will also be presented with a commemorative medal.
